Eastern Jackson County Youth Court (EJCYC) is an alternative to the Juvenile Court process.  First and second-time offenders are referred to Youth Court, a peer diversion court composed of middle school and high school student volunteers.  Juvenile offenders (ages 7 to 18) that attend Youth Court will be tried, defended, judged, and convicted or exonerated by a court made up of their peers. Adults will monitor the court proceedings at all times.  Court sessions are on the first Thursday of each month, year-round, at 1501 NW Jefferson St. (lower level of the building), Blue Springs, Missouri, 64015 

     The court sanctions/sentences in Youth Court include community service hours and attendance at educational programs.  Once the Youth Court sentence is successfully completed and the juvenile turns 18, their criminal record is permanently destroyed.  

     The primary goals of Youth Court are to teach high risk youth the necessity of taking responsibility for their actions, to provide an alternative to the Jackson County Family Court criminal system, for the youth to avoid further contact with the Police, and to teach the offenders skills to resist future criminal activity.

     Eastern Jackson County Youth Court is a non-profit organization funded in part by the Jackson County COMBAT (Community Backed Anti-Drug Tax) Program. There are 9 polices agencies that participate in EJC Youth Court which include the Blue Springs Department of Public Safety, Lake Lotawana, Buckner Police, Grain Valley Police, Greenwood Police, Lone Jack Police, Oak Grove Police, Sugar Creek Police, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.  There are five school districts also participating in Youth Court which include Blue Springs, Fort Osage, Grain Valley, Lone Jack, and Oak Grove.
